WRNMMC  is upgrading our medical center's phone system tonight (Friday) Oct. 27 through the early morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 28.

This upgrade will result in the medical center temporarily being unable to receive or send phone calls or faxes between 10 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday. Those attempting to call the medical center or its support services at that time will receive an "all circuits are busy" message. Those seeking emergency health care should please call 911 or come to WRNMMC's 24-hour Emergency Department.

As a precaution to ensure life safety measures, WRNMMC will activate its Emergency Communications System during the outage to help coordinate necessary communications between patient care areas and the medical center's services during the outage.

We do not anticipate any serious issues to arise from this outage, but if they do, we are prepared to act on them.
Thank you for your patience as we work to enhance our telephone system.

If you have a medical Emergency, please contact 911. If you need to contact our Call Center, please dial (301) 295-4000.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thank you for your patience and support.

Today at Walter Reed Bethesda, during a routine test of our emergency power, we discovered that a section of our emergency power is not operating.

Pepco has been notified and our team is working to bring the system back‎ on-line. Out of an abundance of caution, we are diverting laboring Mothers and all elective procedures will be cancelled until the problem is corrected.

Patients who have scheduled procedures will be contacted by Walter Reed Bethesda to reschedule.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to bring our system back on-line. We will provide you with updated information when it becomes available.

As many of you may have already heard, the Metrorail will be shut down from midnight on Tuesday through 0500 on Thursday.  OPM has given us an  additional challenge by keeping the government open, meaning that we are unable to give administrative leave to our GS civilians.  We anticipate that  all of this will create a significant challenge for staff and patients to  travel by vehicle to NSAB, both in traffic congestion and a shortage of parking spaces.
Reporting to work:
-If you are a GS civilian who is not designated as emergency/essential personnel, please consider unscheduled leave or telework (if you have an approved telework agreement).  If you have any question about your status or whether you should report to work, please contact your supervisor.
-If you are part of our military staff and your role is not in providing or directly supporting patient care, you may contact your supervisor for further instruction on reporting to work.
-If you are part of our contract staff and your role is not in providing or  directly supporting patient care, and the terms of your contract might allow you to not report to work on Wednesday, please contact your supervisor for further instruction.
Additional considerations:
-No parking tickets will be issued tomorrow.
-The gates at the entrances of the Bldg 54 and the MUPS will be up.
-To the maximum extent possible, please carpool.
-Metro buses will be running on their normal schedule, with no additional service.
-There will be no shuttle buses running between Metro stations.

Thank you for your patience during this challenge.  Keep the patient at the center of all we do and take care of our people, and everything else will work itself out.
