The Transitional Year Internship at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) is a fast-paced and exciting clinical learning environment with diverse opportunities for patient care and training. Our goal is to prepare PGY-1 physicians for their next step (whether that is residency or operational medicine) through stimulating
curriculum including interesting clinical rotations, relevant didactics, and opportunities for hands-on simulation.
Located just outside Washington, D.C., our patient population includes Active Duty / Reserve Service Members, Retirees, Dependents, as well as civilian government employees (including our Nation’s Leaders).
This internship is for those who:
Research is a Program Requirement (which will also help with subsequent GMESB applications for residency /
fellowship and for building your CV). This requirement is typically satisfied through participation in the
National Capital Region Research Symposium.
HPSP students will also complete a 1 week
Combat Casualty Care Course (C4) training in San Antonio, TX during the year.
Interviews are conducted every year from July 1st to October 15th with either the Program Director or an Associate Program Director.
