2013 Influenza Guidance
Vaccination is the primary method to reduce the risk of influenza by enhancing force immunity.
Seasonal influenza vaccination is mandatory for all DoD uniformed personnel who are not medically or administratively exempt. In addition, influenza vaccine is mandatory for all WRNMMC health care personnel unless they are exempt for medical or religious reasons.
The seasonal influenza vaccine is currently being administered at Walter Reed Bethesda on the first floor in Building 10, near the Wedge, until January 25th from 8:00 a.m. to 3 p.m.,for all active duty and civilian staff, as well as retirees and beneficiaries.
Flu vaccination is also available in the immunization clinic located in Bldg. 19 on the 4th Floor, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. WRNMMC staffers can also receive vaccinations in occupational health, located in the preventive medicine department in Bldg. 7 on the 2nd Floor from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Early estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicate that there is a good match between the circulating influenza virus strains and the current 2012-2013 seasonal influenza vaccine.
All influenza virus strains tested so far are responsive to antivirals (Tamiflu). MTF pharmacies have adequate amounts of Tamiflu on hand and additional Tamiflu is accessible if needed.
Please note: Maintaining a clean work environment, good hygiene practices, and managing workforce exposure are some simple measures to reduce flu spread.
