Pain Management Clinic

You may experience various levels of pain depending on the cause of your pain (i.e. surgery, accident, cancer). The amount of pain relief you experience depends upon your knowledge about how to use pain control methods effectively.

The Department has a distinguished history of significant and successful interventions to control pain issues.

Pain Control Methods
Pills and Injections: These are the most common methods of pain control.
Patient-Control Analgesia (PCA): This pain medication is administered into your intravenous tubing (IV) when you press a button. There are controls built into this system to prevent overdose.
Continuous Epidural Pain Management: Pain medication is delivered by a pump, directly into your back through a thin catheter. This tube can be used to provide anesthesia for surgery and for pain relief afterward.
Others: Rectal suppositories, transdermal patches, intrathecal injections.

Pain Control & You
The amount of pain you experience and the amount of pain medication needed to control pain is different for each person. You have the following responsibilities in controlling pain:
  1. Communicate unrelieved pain to your physician or nurse so that pain control methods can be adjusted to meet your individual needs.
  2. Take pain medication as prescribed. Also, take medication before pain is severe. It should be taken before doing activities that can cause an increase in pain, such as coughing, deep breathing, turning, sitting up, or walking.
Preplan by downloading and filling out paperwork before you visit to make the process quicker.
